Calculator

A preset fills in the provider’s published prices and billing rules. Change any of them under Prices and billing rules.

Akamai Cloud (Linode) Nanode 1 GB Shared CPU: 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 25 GB storage, 1 TB transfer

$0.0075/hour · $5.00/month · cap after 667 h · billed per started hour · stopped servers billed

Sources: Linode API price list, How billing works · Checked October 2, 2026. The provider states the cap as a price; 667 hours is our arithmetic ($5.00 ÷ $0.0075, rounded up). Prices are higher in some regions (Jakarta, São Paulo).

How long the server exists

What it costs

7 days: hourly billing costs $1.26.

  • Hourly $1.26 168 h × $0.0075/hour
  • Daily — No daily price entered.
  • Monthly — Here the monthly price is the cap on hourly billing, not a separate term.

From 667 hours of use in a month (27 days 19 hours), the cap holds hourly billing at $5.00.

Prices

A prepaid 24-hour term. Leave blank if the provider has none.

A prepaid month, or the amount where hourly billing stops if there is a cap.

Billing rules

Blank means no cap. If the provider states the cap as a price, divide the monthly price by the hourly price and round up.

How the calculator counts

Each total follows the rules in the form, the same way for every provider, including ours. Change a rule and every number moves with it.

Billing increment
With per-started-hour billing, every started hour counts in full, so a 10-minute test costs a full hour. Per-minute and per-second billing charge the time used. Hourly billing with a partial hour rounded to the nearest cent, the way HourlyVPS bills, charges whole hours at the hourly price and a partial hour for the time used, rounded to the nearest cent. Durations here are whole minutes, so per-second and per-minute billing give the same total.
Minimum charge
Some providers charge a floor per server, however short its life. DigitalOcean, for example, charges at least 60 seconds or $0.01, whichever is higher.
Monthly cap
With a cap, a month of hourly billing stops growing once the server reaches the cap hours, and that month costs the monthly price. Several providers put the cap at 28 days. When a provider states the cap only as a price, the preset divides the monthly price by the hourly price, rounds up and says so. If hourly charges reach the monthly price before the cap hours, the total stops at that price. With a cap the monthly price is not a separate term, so the Monthly result stays empty.
Daily and monthly terms
A term is paid up front. Each started day or month costs its full price unless the provider gives back unused time; pick its rule under “Ending a daily or monthly term early”.
Stopped servers
Many providers keep billing a stopped server, because its CPU, memory and IP address stay reserved. Some stop charging for compute, but disks, snapshots and IP addresses usually still cost money and are not counted here. Enter stopped hours to see the difference.
What a month means here
A month is 30 days (720 hours). Real bills follow billing periods of 28 to 31 days: a calendar month at many providers, one month from the order date at HourlyVPS. A cap resets when a new billing period starts, so a server that spans two of them can be billed a little differently.
Break-even point
The line under the totals names the first length at which a daily or monthly term costs less than hourly billing, for a server that runs the whole time. With a cap, it names the hours after which the month costs no more.
Not included
Taxes, extra IPv4 addresses, backups and snapshots, extra storage, traffic overage, operating system licenses and currency conversion.

Where the preset prices come from

Research by HourlyVPS. On October 2, 2026 we read each provider’s own pricing and billing pages for its smallest plan that publishes both an hourly and a monthly price. Where a site blocked our requests, we read an archived copy in the Wayback Machine and link to it. Prices and rules change, so check the provider’s page before you buy. The full fine print for each provider is in Hourly VPS Providers Compared.

“Derived” cap hours are our arithmetic for providers that state the cap as a price: the monthly price divided by the hourly price, rounded up. “Pages disagree” marks a provider whose own pages give different figures; the preset uses the one the provider states and its note gives both. Source links for sites that blocked us point to the archived copy we read.

Not in the list: providers whose monthly figure is only an estimate of hourly use, and plans whose price we could not confirm on the provider’s own page. Use Manual entry for them.

HourlyVPS plans are in the list too, labeled as ours. They use the prices on our pricing page and the same math as every other preset; nothing is weighted. Every plan is capped at 500 hours per billing period: the monthly price is 500 times the hourly rate, and after 500 billed hours (about 20.8 days) the rest of the period is free, so a server left on all month pays exactly the monthly price and never more. A billing period is one month from your order date, not the calendar month, and the cap resets every period. Our presets charge whole hours at the hourly price and a partial first or last hour for the time used, rounded to the nearest cent, as the bill does. The price tapes elsewhere on the site count every started hour in full, so they show the most a run can cost.
